$2,400.00
Listed is a pre owned Spencer Repeating Carbine chambered in .56-56 Spencer. This rifle is in good shape and would be a fantastic piece in a collection.
Invented by Christopher Spencer in the mid 1800’s, over 200,000 examples were manufactured in the United States by the Spencer Repeating Rifle Co. and Burnside Rifle Co. between 1860 and 1869. While used during the Civil War by come companies, especially by the calvary, they never replaced the standard issue muskets. The carbine was a light, handy, and quick to aim rifle designed with calvary companies in mind.
This rifle is in good condition overall. The original finish on the steel has faded to a plum brown and gray throughout. There are also several spots where some bare metal is showing, mostly on high contact surfaces. The original stamping is lightly faded on the top but still shows through. It reads “Spencer Repeating- Rifle Co. Boston Mass. Pat’d March 6 1860.” The lever action is smooth and does not exhibit any wobble. The wood appears to have been refurbished at some point, but the original hardware was reapplied. The buttplate and sling studs are all original. The original magazine tube is also included. The front sight was also replaced with a coin filed down. It is slightly wobbly but otherwise is serviceable. The bore of the 22″ barrel shows some light frosting and a few spots of light pitting. The rifling is still visible.
This rifle does not have a box or any papers.
