Pre Owned Winchester 1895 Takedown 40-72 WCF 1909 MFG

$1,900.00

1 in stock

Product Information:

Listed is a pre owned Winchester Model 1895 chambered for 40-72 Winchester Center Fire cartridge’s. This gun is in very good shape, but has definitely had some aftermarket gunsmithing work completed.
The wooden furniture shows many years of honest use, wear, and handling. There are light scratches scuffs throughout, with the most significant being a V shaped chip in the cheek of the stock. It appears the stock may have been lightly sanded and had a new oil finish applied at some point in its life.
The finish on the receiver has faded to a dark brown with some blue left in spots. The sharper edges and high contact areas have faded to a plain steel. A Pacific brand peep sight has been added to the rear with a small bead front sight. This rifle was originally a takedown model, but the mechanism is pinned shit with a small pin forward of the release sliding lever so that it cannot operate.
The most noticeable work on this firearm is that the barrel has been significantly modified. It appears it was originally stamped for 30 US, however the bore measures at a .40 Caliber, matching a newer 40-72 stamp on the top of the barrel, which we believe to be the actual caliber of the gun as it is currently configured. The barrel has been reduced from its original length down to 20″. The bore is bright, with good rifling. though some odd rainbow colored spots are visible inside the grooves, presumably from heat when the barrel was rebored to the larger caliber.
This rifle is serial number 67942, and was numbered in December of 1909. It is accompanied by a letter from the Cody Firearms Record Office with an exact application date, however no other records as to the original configuration for this rifle were available. A scan of the letter is included with the images for this listing.
This rifle does not have a box, case, or other papers included.
