The Rock Island Arsenal (RIA) M15 General Officer’s Model is a highly coveted .45 ACP handgun built between 1972 and 1974. Designed to replace aging Colt Pocket Hammerless pistols, the U.S. Army converted just 1,004 standard 1911A1s into these compact, highly accurized sidearms exclusively for issuing to flag-rank officers. Serial number GO 497, the two issued magazines are marked 497. The Bucheimer (Valencia CA Clark) Deputy B14-74 holster and US DSA100-69-C-0049 double magazine pouch are also included
This piece belonged to late Brigadier General Sidney L. Foulston Jr. of Wichita, Kansas. The General enlisted in the Army during WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he received a battle field commission. A letter from his son will be included for the winner.
Key Design & Build Features
- Barrel & Slide: The barrel was shortened to 4.25 or 4.5 inches. The slide was milled down and specifically engraved with “General Officer Model / RIA”. The slides and frames for this pistols were machines from GI 1911s
- National Match Upgrades: Featured high-profile front and rear sights, a stippled or checkered front grip strap, and an improved trigger.
- Distinctive Grips: Fitted with select walnut grips. The left panel held an inlaid metal plate engraved with the general’s name, while the right panel bore the official Rock Island Arsenal seal.
- This pistol has finish scratches and the chrome finish on the trigger shows wear. However, overall GO 497 appears unfired.
