U.S. Springfield Armory M1899 .30-40 Krag Sporterized Rifle & Scabbard
$600.00
Product Information:
Up for purchase is a consignment sporterized M1898 30-40 rifle.
Rifle Details:
– The barrel has been cut down from 30″ to 24″, featuring a brazed front sight marked “Pacific.”
– The original stock was pare-down to lighten it, removing the right and left scallops, and adding a cheek scallop on the left side for a right-handed shooter.
– The original buttplate remains with a trapdoor for the cleaning rod (missing). There is, however, an interesting small ball of twine in the compartment.
Scabbard:
– The period-correct original scabbard is marked “F.S.J. Co.” (F.S. Johnson Company) with a “J.D.” inspector stamp, possibly for John Denner.
– The scabbard is in good condition, though the straps show more wear than the scabbard itself.
Overall Condition:
This is an interesting combination in good condition. The modifications to the rifle were well-executed, the patina and markings are nice, and the bore is clean and rust-free with good rifling.
